The following letter was =�eceiv�� b�� the City r7APLE PLAIN LAW Council concerning the Contract for Law Enforce- ENFORCEP�ENT LETTER ment from Maple Plain, dated September 27 , 1978, which states: "This letter is to give notice that the City of Maple Plain is exercising its option to terminate the Agreement and Contract for Law Enforcement as of December 31, 1978. " End of letter Tom Kuehn, Finance Director, presented the follow- POLICE SERVICE CONTRACT ing mer,lo to the City Council concerning the police service contracts, dated October 5, 1978, which states: On September 26, 1978, Council approved the 1979 budget for the police department. On September 29 , 1978, staff received a letter from the City of Maple Plain stating that they were exercising their option to terminate the existing Agreement and Contract for Law Enforcement as of December 31, 1978. This means the loss of $53,039 in revenue for 1979. Chief Kilbo has cut the budget in an effort to offset this revenue loss by $48, 943. The attached schedule indicates the budget reductions by line item. Assur.►ing that Council ok' s the budget cuts as presented, the net effect of the revenue loss of $53,039 versus the budget reduction of $48,943 means that approximately $�4, 100 will have to be absorbed by the remaining cities in the contract, including Orono. Orono' s share of this is $1, 476 . This amount is not material and i feel we can absorb it. ' (Continued)
