REGULAR MEETING OF TIIE OR02d0 COUNCIL, P4ARCH 30 , 1978 Page 19 Mr. James Olson, City Engineer, presented the RING ROUTE attached letter concerning the ring route dated �ril 12, 1978 : Letter - Pages 20-23 Mayor Van t7est: [�hat would be the dollar short fall for the alternative? Jim Olson: Twice the cost of the proposed route. Mrs. Sara F9yatt, 5680 Echo Road, Excelsior: l�1e feel that the alternate would better serve the area an d have less impact on the area. Jim Olson: Traffic moves northeast, not directly north as the alternative would provide. People want to travel by time, not miles. Mrs. ��Jyatt: Could we not construct the alternative and defer the connection to Highway �12 until a later date? Jir.l Olson: We would have to do a better job carrying traffic to Highway #12. Mr. Howard P•�eagher, 3980 Dahl Road: Is there not 'uplication between Orono and Hennepin County? Jim Olson: No. Hennepin County approves our design. Unidentified person: Aren't there conflicts in speed limits? Jim Olson: We cannot set speed limits. The State does this. . " IIr. Robert Gehrman, 4300 Sixth Avenue North, presented a survey to the City Council commenting that we feel that the alternative to the north route is more acceptable to the Orono residents. Dr. Gehrman' s survey states: The Orono Council has promoted the concept of a ring route to alleviate traffic volumes on County Road 15 and is committed to the concept of this ring route. Given this premise, which alternative do you prefer? Diagonal/Straight? Eighty-six signatures for �he straight route and three for the diagonal route. 'here were no other comments from the audience. Massengale moved, Butler seconded, to table the ring route matter until the meeting of April 13, 1978. P�otion, Ayes (3) - Nays (0) .
