Based on the foregoing restrictions, we estimated SHADE TREE PROGRA2d the following to be the 1977 Replanting Budget: (Continued) � Personnel $ 1, 165 � Equipment Use 931 • Total $ 2 , 096 � The figures for personnel and equipment use are from the same sources as the Sanitation Grant � Budget. In 1976 , the City removed 29 diseased trees from public property. Therefore, we are � limited to recovering 50� of the costs of planting 29 shade trees in 1977. The average cost per tree � being under $80. 00 ($72. 28) . � If the City should decide to participate in both � programs as budgeted, we estimate that the City will recover the following: r Sanitation Budget $21,571 X 45°s = $ 9 , 707 • Replanting Budget $ 2, 096 X 50� - 1,048 Total Estimated Grants 10 , 755 � � Note: The City did not budget for replanting or subsidies in 1977. However, if the grants estimated � by the State are accurate, we will recover enough to pay for the replanting and subsidies and to � offset part of the costs that were budgeted for � 1977 as part of the regular program as follows : � Total Estimated Grants $ 10 , 755 Less Estimated Total Costs of �' Replanting (2 ,096) . Gerald Beach, Forester for � the City of Orono, Mr. Thomas Kuehn, Finance • Director, Mr. John Gerhardson, Public Works Supervisor, and P1r. W. R. Benson, City Administrator, � met to discuss the current shade tree program sponsored by the State of Minnesota. It was � agreed that if the City of Orono were to participate in the program to subsidize the pr.operty owner, it � would have to be limited to half acre lots or smaller. � (Continued) � ' �
