r
• REGULAR P-ZEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, JUNE 13, 1977 Page 4b
With the amount of floor (sales) space we have LIQUOR STORE RENT
now for merchandising and sales , it is almost (Continued)
mpossible to stimulate a big enough increase
in sales to cover this increase in expenses.

• Therefore, if the rent is to be $1, 000 per month
for the space we have in order to increase our
sales, it would be to our advantage (almost a
necessity) to get a larger store, even if it
costs more. Our cost per square foot will only
pay off if it is used as sales and display.

In conclusion of all these considerations, we
have no choice but to stay on a month to month
• basis and possibly recorunend to P1r. Keaveny a
date for consideration of his building proposals.
I am sure Pdr. Keaveny is as anxious as we are to
settle the question of where we can locate to
our best advantage as well as his own. .
Mayor Van Nest moved, Butler seconded, to approve
an amendment to Article I increasing the Liquor
Store rent from $875 per month to $1, 000 per month,
effective July l, 1977 as per lease agreement.
Motion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) .
Dick Benson, City Administrator, reviewed a letter EMPLOYEE TERMINATION
f:rom Lorraine McGowan, Liquor Store P!Ianager, which Mona Gleason
states that:
I am requesting that our books be closed on our
former employee, Mona Gleason. The last hours
she worked part-time were December 3, 1976 .

Sh2 has applied for disability from Social Security
and also her PERA. Therefore, her employment as
. a part-time employee should be terminated.
• Butler moved, Paurus seconded, to accept the
recommendation of Lorraine McGowan, Liquor
Store Manager, to terminate former part-tirne
ernployee, biona Gleason. Motion, Ayes (4) -
 Nays (0) .
• Dick Benson, City Administrator, informed the NAVARRE WATER RATES
City Council of a preliminary report on water
rates in the Navarre area of Orono, dated June 10 ,
1977, which states:
 (Continued)
