i <br /> REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL MAY 9 , 1977 Page 17 <br /> Mayor Van Nest commented that this matter NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br /> requires further study. The City does not want MARINA <br /> � to increase marina storage to further add to (Continued) <br /> the degrading of the area. The Lake Minnetonka <br /> Conservation District and the Minnehaha Creek <br /> Watershed District should be allowed input. <br /> Mr. Bruce Douglas stated that the North Shore <br /> Marina could store 300 boats or more and you <br /> � leave us no choice but to increase our storage <br /> areas. <br /> At this time, D�r. Douglas and Mr. Hork left the <br /> Council Chambers and discontinued any further <br /> discussions. <br /> Councilmember Paurus commented that originally <br /> the marinas were allowed to provide service and <br /> � access to the lake, but crowding factors and <br /> increased densities are abusing and degrading . <br /> the lakeshores, creating complaints from the <br /> � residents of the area. <br /> � This matter will be entered on the next Council <br /> agenda. <br /> Mr. James Bloemendal, Mr. Lanny Seamore and Mr. LUCE LINE TRAIL <br /> Otto Christensen, Department of Natural Resources <br /> representatives, pr:esented a film on DNR trails <br /> and discussed leases, easements, and land <br /> acquisition as they relate to present and <br /> future trail programs_._ _ <br /> Mayor Van Nest stated that the citizens are still ' <br /> • conccrn�d with traii s�pe�-ai�ion and reg��ati�zs ,._: <br /> and the lack of policing-. Mr. Bloemendal commented-_ <br /> that the State has determined to regulate and <br /> police the trail and the local conservation officer <br /> � Mr. Jim Granger should be notified of any problems. <br /> � rdayor Van Nest asked if there were any plans to <br /> • expand existing trails or parking areas and asked <br /> the DNR officials to keep the City informed to <br /> allow sufficient review time. <br /> � Mr. Seamore, who is now Regional Administrator for <br /> the DNR, commented that he was with the Division <br /> of Waters for some time and complimented the <br /> Council on their stand with marinas in attempting <br /> to environmentally protect Lake Minnetonka. <br /> � <br /> � <br /> s <br />
