'
ORONO COUNCIL 1EETING IIELD JANUARY 10, 1977 Pa e 17
 g
9. Increased municipal services that would be
required for the proposed development would VO-TECH SCHOOLS
deny Orono residents share of these services, (Continued)
l0o The importance of maintaining a rural aspect
in this area was determined by the City after
extensive review and expensee Reports from
various groups and agencies indicate the
• need for control of development to protect
` and preserve the natural amnities of the
district and maintain the quality of laJce
water and water storage in Orono,
Orono-Long Lake Sewer Line Extension To Proposed
'TAnnepin County Vo-Tech School - December 30, 1976
•
In regard to the sewer availability of the Orono
portion of the Long Lake Sewer System, I contacted
I'-. Lyle Swanson of McCombs-Knutson Engineering
and the level of service is qoverned by the Long
Lake sewer lines with the threefold problem of
(1) lay Street sewer line where they have had
problems with capacity at peak rlows, (2) the
sewer line from the IIurlington-Northern railroad
! tracks to Highway I2, and (3) the line frorn
• Highway 12 to lift station B. Lift station B
`Yansfers the sewage to the liay Street sewer line.
 _ e to these problems, T4r. Darrel Shipper, a
orrier employee of Long Lake, has stated Orono
would have approximately 20 units available. These
20 units would increase the flow from Orono
 approximately 6,000 gal.Ions per dayo
•tTith the proposed building of a Hennein County
Vo-Tech School, we would increase this flow by
anywhere from 50,000 gallons per day to 100,000
gallons per day or more which would create a
construction situation which, in turn, would be
a reversal of the comprehensive planning of Orono.
Because of this awareness, Orono has defined its
land use policy so that development with its rural
service areas would remain rural in nature without
the requirement for expensive municipal services
that Orono cannot provideo Since Long Lake will
,eventually require most of the capacity in its
sewers from its own growth, it should be understood
that the Orono connections are temporary and that
there is not capacity in the Long Lake System
for full development of all the property in Orono
which could be served through the Long Lake System.
7 -Tech - Impact on City Streets - December 30, 1976

y concern on the Vo-Tech proposal is the maintenance
o the City streets, drainage control and safety

i (Continued}
