In addition, borings were marked in the fieid with lath_
. Ground surface elevation at each ofthe bprirags and at key topographic paints on the site
were detennined ta the nest 0.1' using an enincer's level and reerenced to invert ievel
of what is known as Marhole#21 in front of the lot, 1 ]p'+of the wet lot line extended.
According t4 information furnished by the City of Orono's ngineering consultants, this
bench mark hs a sea level reference elevation of 1004.44. Rim elevation was latr found to
be approximately 1014.5. k?levations are shown on bore logs and on the site sketch. Aecuracy
of this should not be taket as any gneater than the methods used would imply.
FILLb ,irATION
The barings were aecomptished in accordance with ASTM U 1452, "Standazd Practice
for Soil Investigation and Sampling by Auger Borings". This prc, cedure is described in the
first attachment at the back of the text portian of this cepart. This attachrnent also describes
the soil classification system used (Unified) and method of groundwater measurement. A
Pmfessional Engineer xpericnced ir soils enineering personally perfarmd the borings,
imtnediately classified t»st recove.ed soils in the field, and made fild judgments, mainly
relating to strength of soil and depths of borings, as fieldwork procceded. Some soils were
retained and pteserved by the Engineer in their natural candition for passible laboratory
testing.
BQRiN
Attached $re logs for each of the borings together with a key explaining term and
entries. Also attached is a report of various labratary tests (Atterberg Limits and Maisture
Contnt) run on a selected soil sample. Some additianal moisture content tests raults aze
reported direc, tly upon borinlogs. The depth of individual lyers of soils may vary somewhat
from what is indicated on the logs due to the inexact nature of. auger borings and, mdst
importantly, the occurrence of transitian between sail layers. Alsa be advised that soil and
water conditions not at thc boring locations may vary.
The bcrings indicate some uncontrolled fill df varying descriptions at surface level.
While somewhat shallow in depth (2.5'-3.5'), it is universally of poor quraliry (unsaturated,
loose ta firm, with organic soil) and lies over an unsuitable base (organic and peat soils) in
all cses. This fill is mostly lean clay(CL)with varying amounts of organic soil (QL). All af
