Based on this
type of construction, we anticipate column loads of less than 100 kips, and structural wall loadings
varying betweea 2 and 6 kips per linear foot.
Our design recommendations are based on providing a minimum factor of safety of at least three against
a general shear failure, and limiting total and differential settlement to 1" and 1/2", respectively.
3.2 Discussion
Groundwater levels as high as 1019' were recorded at some of the boring locations. As a result, a review
should be made of a potential 100-year storm high groundwater level in order to maintain an acceptable
clearance between the finished floor elevation and the highest potential groundwater. Based on the
cunent groundwater conditions, we estimate an average elevation of approximately 1018'.
Relatively soft and wet soil conditions near the surface will require excavatioas to depths of 4' to 5' in
the council chamber, city office and police station azea and on the order of 2'.to 4' at the public works
` facility. Because of the relatively high water table, it will be necessary to perform some of the excavation
below the water table. Because of the sensitive nature of the soils to be left in-place, it will be necessary
to perform the excavation with a backhoe or dragline type of equipment.
Relatively clean sand will be requirerl as a fill material near the groundwater. Reuse of the excavated
material will most likely not be feasible since it is anticipate that it will be in a very moist to wet
_ condition. Significant aeration and drying would be required in order to make this a suitable structural
- borrow material. .
a
 twsn ct testnq
CQfOCf?Y_iCll
