MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, July 14, 2008 <br />7:00 o’clock a.m. <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />ROLL <br /> <br />The Orono City Council met on the above-mentioned date with the following members present: Mayor <br />James White, Council Members James Murphy, Lili McMillan, Cynthia Bremer, and David Rahn. <br />Representing Staff were Interim City Administrator Jay Kiedrowski, Assistant City Administrator for <br />Long-Term Strategy Mike Gaffron, Planner Evelyn Turner, City Engineer Tom Kellogg, and Recorder <br />Jackie Young. <br /> <br />Mayor White called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br />Item Nos. 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 19 were added to the Consent Agenda. <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Bremer seconded, to approve the Consent Agenda as amended. <br />VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />*2. REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 23, 2008 <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Bremer seconded, to approve the minutes of the June 23, 2008, Orono City Council <br />meeting as submitted. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />PRESENTATION <br /> <br />3. COMMUNITY MEDIATION SERVICES, JOANNE LEWELLEN - PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />JoAnne Lewellen, Community Mediation Services, addressed the Orono City Council regarding the <br />mediation services they provide to the residents of Orono and surrounding communities. They were <br />formerly known as Hennepin County Mediation Services. Community Mediation Services is celebrating <br />its 25th anniversary this year and they are asking municipalities to pass a proclamation recognizing the <br />value of constructive conflict resolution and appreciation for the volunteers who provide the mediation <br />services. Community Mediation Services utilizes solely volunteer mediators and cover a wide gamut of <br />disputes. Lewellen indicated a new type of mediation that is being implemented is between youths and <br />school systems and that their case load has been steadily increasing, particularly in housing disputes. <br /> <br />Bremer asked how many other cities have been spoken to. <br /> <br />Lewellen indicated they have visited with the Cities of Minnetonka, Plymouth, and that she will <br />personally be attending the Mound City Council meeting in the near future.
