Li htin Recognizing the rural quality of life and the effect the night sky has on the community, the City is considering an ordinance that would regulate and define light levels throughout the community, in all zoning districts. The Planning Commission invites public comment at its workshop on 3 February, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Orono City Hall. A draft of an ordinance is available for review at City Hall or on the City's website, www.ci.orono.mn.us/ Public Notices, or by contacting Community Development Director Jeremy Barnhart at 952-249-4626 or jbarnhart@ci.orono.mn.us Short-Term Rentals The use of Orono properties for short term (sometimes known as vacation rentals) has increased with the expanded use of websites such as VRBO.com, AirBnB.com, and Homeaway.com. Short-Term Rentals may negatively impact some neighborhoods because these users may not have the same interest in the welfare of the neighborhood as more permanent residents. The City is considering an ordinance to regulate these uses, either prohibiting short term rentals, or establishing standards for the protection of the renter, neighborhood, and community at large.
