NAVARRE STREET LIGHT UPDATE
Struve stated on May 5"' of this year Spring Park had a light pole fall down due to a deteriorated
condition. It was their second light pole that collapsed this year. Spring Park currently has 38 poles in
their city. Struve indicated Navarre also has 38 light poles and two additional poles on top of someone
else's poles. The light poles were installed around 1988 and are currently experiencing some corrosion
around the bases.
Barr Engineering feels it is warranted to remove and replace the light poles located in Spring Park.
Struve indicated he asked Barr Engineering to look at two of Orono's poles on the city boundary. Barr's
conclusion was that Orono's poles should also be replaced. Spring Park has also experienced some issues
with the wiring but to date the City of Orono has not. Struve indicated it is likely Orono will start
experiencing some wiring issues in the near future as well.
Struve stated he has been in conversations with Hennepin County regarding a possible grant available this
fall and that he would like the City Council to provide some direction to Staff on how they would like to
proceed. Struve indicated Orono could submit a joint grant application with Spring Park to replace the
light poles and the wiring.
