The system consists of septic tanks and a shallow trench drainfield with a curtain drain,
all located generally in the front yard.
Soil borings performed by S-P Testing, Inc. indicated that soil mottling (an indicator of seasonal
water table) was encountered at a depth of less than 4' and a mound treatment system would
normally have been required at the site. However, no area on the site with slope suitable for
a mound met the required well-to-drainfield setback.
Tlierefore, the Inspection Department allowed the installation of a shallow trench system with
a curtain drain around the uphill perimeter to intercept and eliminate any seasonal ground water
that may occur in the area of the drainfield. With this curtain drain in place, this system as built
is considered by the City of Orono as a conforming system, meeting the code requirements for
separation from the seasonal water table.
Sincerely,
 ,/
/G ; "_.,_"'--`.

Michael P.
