ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />• MINUTES FOR JUNE 8,1998 <br />( #2) Saga Hill Park Access Information Meeting - continued <br />Jabbour noted that the Church has informed the City that they don't want to be put in the middle of <br />a conflict with the neighborhood. <br />Kelley reiterated that he made a broad motion to negotiate with the Church for the best possible <br />access. <br />A short recess was held. <br />( #3) CONSENT AGENDA <br />Items #19, 20 and 21 were added to the Consent Agenda. Flint moved, Peterson seconded, to <br />approve the Consent Agenda as amended. Vote: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />( * #4) REGULAR MEETING OF MAY 26,1998 <br />Flint moved, Peterson seconded, to approve the Minutes of the Regular City Council Meeting of <br />May 26, 1998. Vote: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />PARK COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />Commissioner McDermott thanked Council Members for participating in the park tour. <br />He reported on the following items: <br />- The Commission has been working with the Native American community on <br />selecting a name for Dickey Park and design plans. <br />- A study on the ice rinks will be presented in the near future. The option of an ice <br />rink at the Orono Golf Course appears to be too expensive. <br />- Wilson is working on the tree preservation ordinance. - <br />- Spring Hill trail issues are being discussed. <br />- Recycling containers are being supplied at Bederwood Park. <br />- Funds received from the March for Parks event will be used for planting perennials <br />and flowering shrubs around three of the City park signs - Hackberry, Navarre, and the <br />third is yet to be decided. <br />- Gappa is working on new beach regulation signs. <br />- Storm damage is being addressed. <br />• Jabbour asked for a written report on some of the issues brought forward during the Saga Hill <br />meeting, such as acreage for open space vs. developed parks, and park needs. <br />E <br />
