MINUTES OF THE ORONO COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 25, 1989
• COUNTY ROAD 116 CONTINUED
Polaczyk whether it was true that 15 trees would be removed from
her property?
Mr. Polaczyk replied that from what he could see, there
would be 4 trees removed. Mr. Polaczyk said that he could send a
surveyor out to stake the area to which the road would extend.
Mrs. Mathewson also explained that traffic was a problem in
that area.
Acting Mayor Callahan suggested to Mr. Polaczyk that a
determination be made as to how many trees will need to be
removed and that an attempt be made to minimize tree removal.
Mr. Polaczyk suggested that residents call and talk with
himself or Mr. Theis if they have any questions or concerns
regarding this matter. Public Works Director Gerhardson
suggested that persons call him with their questions or to make
appointments to meet at their individual sites.
Acting Mayor Callahan asked who set the speed limit for the
road?
Mr. Polaczyk replied that the speed limit is set by the
• Commissioner of Transportation who will conduct speed studies and
set the speed limit.
Ms. Rhonda Adams, 2095 Webber Hills, questioned why the
County would proceed with this project when the plans for Highway
12 were still so uncertain? She said that she did not understand
the priority of this road.
Acting Mayor Callahan explained that such a question
pertained to the reason why the road was going in rather than to
the design of the road. He said that it is up to the City of
Medina and Hennepin County as to whether or not the road will be
constructed and when.
Mr. Cliff Otten, questioned whether the 14 foot right -of -way
would continue along the west side of Willow as far as Highway
12?
Mr. Polaczyk said that the 14' of right -of -way would
continue along the west side from Trunk Highway 12 to County Road
6. He added that there would be additional right -of -way taken
along the east side near Highway 12 in order to achieve better
alignment of the Road with Highway 12.
Mr. Greg Coward, 1950 Heritage Drive, said that the
character and atmosphere of the Road area will change regardless
• of whether the Road is constructed by the County or by Orono.
Acting Mayor Callahan concurred with Mr. Coward.
67
