The public water is identifies as Minnetonka (27-133P).
Site Visit
SER ecologists examined the subject property for areas meeting jurisdictional wetland criteria
during the site visit. Two wetlands met the jurisdictional criteria of a wetland therefore two
wetland boundaries were determined and delineated. The approximate wetland boundaries are
outlined in yellow in Figure 5.
Accumulated precipitation since 4/O1/2011, as recorded at MSP and reported by the USDA
National Agricultural Statistics Service in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of
Agriculture reports that for the week ended November 6, 2011, was 1.76" below normal.
Precipitation for the period 10/31/2011 to 11/06/2011 was reported to be 0.49" below normal and
for the preceding 4 weeks was 1.20" below normal.
The Minnesota Climatology Warking Group Gridded Database for the August 1 through October
31, 2011 period WETS Score for the 1971-2000 normal period was Dry (6). The Score was the
same using the 1981-2010 normal period.
Wetland 1
Wetland 1 is located at the north end of the property and continues off of the subject parcel and
out of the evaluated area to the west. Dominant vegetation within Wetland 1 was narrow-leaf
cattail (Typha angustifolia, OBL), lake sedge (Carex lacustris, OBL), lesser duckweed (Lemna
minor, OBL) and hummock sedge (Carex stricta, OBL). Reed canary grass (Phalaris
arundinacea, FACW) was also dominant within Wetland 1 along portions of the fringe area.
Standing water would likely be present during most of the growing season within Wetland 1 but
given that this area was delineated in November, standing water was not present.
Sample Transect 1-1
The vegetation transition zone along Sample Transect 1-1 started with a dominance of
blue-flag iris (Iris versicolor, OBL) at Sample Point (SP) 1-1 WET in the herbaceous
stratum. Common bucktharn (Rhamnus cathartica, FAC) and glossy buckthorn
(Rhamnus frangula, FAC) were dominant within the shrub layer. Cottonwood (Populus
deltoides, FAC) and green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica, FACW) were dominant within
the tree layer.
The vegetation transition to upland also yielded a dominance of cottonwood and green
ash in the tree layer and common buckthorn in the shrub layer but the herbaceous layer
yielded a dominance of only common buckthorn. The dominance test and the prevalence
index were not met for the upland point.
Soils at SP 1-1 WET were black and hemic down to 4 inches followed by a dark gray
sand with 20 percent brown redox concentrations down to 10 inches. From 10 to 18
inches the soils become a sandy clay loam with a black matrix and 10 percent course
greenish gray gleyed mottles.
Soils at SP 1-1 UP were very dark grayish brown loamy sands down to 9 inches.
