MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD AUGUST 24, 1987 <br />#1183 JACK SWENSON CONTINUED <br />Which in turn gets into the issue, whether the City <br />likes it or not, of dealing with things on an individual <br />basis, which was very much the consensus of the Planning <br />Commission. <br />Mayor Grabek did not feel that the Councils have been <br />blind to the 0 -75' zone, in which approval has been <br />given in situations where a hardship is present, such as <br />steep slope, permanent docks due to ice damage. He felt <br />their purpose was to protect the shoreline regardless of <br />the looks. He felt the Planning Commission has been <br />misdirected in approving this structure. <br />It; was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Goetten, to approve the after - the -fact <br />hardcover variance to allow a deck platform within 75 <br />feet of the shoreline per the findings as listed by the <br />Planning Commission. Motion, Ayes 3, Nays 1. Mayor <br />Grabek voted nay stating that the Council was shirking <br />their responsibility to the 0 -75' and setting a <br />precedent. Additionally, he would like the Planning <br />,..Commission be given some direction in order to follow <br />the guidelines as set forth in the City code to protect <br />the 0 -75'' zone. Motion carried. <br />#1185 GARY CARLSON <br />965 EDGEWOOD HILLS ROAD <br />RENEWAL VARIANCE <br />RESOLUTION #2251 <br />City Administrator Bernhardson explained the request for <br />a renewal variance approved by the City in 1983. The <br />only substantial change the staff recommends is the <br />granting of an underlying road and utility easement over <br />an existing easement that has been designated as a part <br />of a future turnaround for Edgewood Hills Road. <br />Gary Carlson was present for this matter and found no <br />problem with the proposed revision as stated. <br />It was moved by Councilmember Goetten, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, to adopt Resolution #2251 <br />approving the renewal variances subject to granting the <br />City an underlying road and utility easement over an <br />existing easement that has been designated as a part of <br />a future turnaround for Edgewood Hills Road; and subject <br />to notifying staff if additional fill is needed. <br />Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />#1169 WILLIAM WEAR <br />OLD CRYSTAL BAY ROAD /WATERTOWN ROAD <br />SUBDIVISION - CONCEPTUAL REVIEW <br />William Wear was present for this matter. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson explained the conceptual <br />
