r' <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD AUGUST 24, 1987 <br />ATTENDANCE 7:00 P.M. <br />The Orono Council met on the above date with the <br />following members present: Mayor Grabek, Councilmembers <br />Peterson, Sime, and Goetten. Councilmember Callahan was <br />absent. The following represented the City staff: City <br />Administrator Bernhar,dson, Public. Works Coordinator <br />Gerhardson, Police Chief Kilbo, Building & Zoning <br />Administrator Mabusth, Septic & Zoning Aide Knott, and <br />City Recorder Peterson. City Attorney Blatz was also <br />present. <br />CONSENT AGENDA* <br />It was moved by Councilmember <br />Councilmember Goetten, to approve <br />subject to removal of the following <br />City Administrator Bernhardson: <br />#4 - #1176 Richard Putnam <br />#9 - #1185 Gary Carlson <br />#21- Administrator's Information <br />Reduction) <br />Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />Sime, seconded by <br />the Consent Agenda* <br />Items requested by <br />(Goose Population <br />RECOGNITION OF FIRE CHIEFS <br />City Administrator Bernhardson explained that about a <br />month ago the Council was informed that the insurance <br />service office rating for hydranted areas was reduced <br />from Class 7 to Class 6. Council felt it appropriate to <br />recognize the Fire Chiefs of the four Communities that <br />serve the City of Orono at a Council meeting. He noted <br />that Chief Ray McCoy of the Maple Plain Fire Department <br />was unable to attend this meeting. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson introduced Chief Don <br />Bryce of the Mound Fire Department. Chief Bryce has <br />been with the Mound Fire Department for 22 years, <br />serving the last three years as Chief. He is a <br />carpenter by occupation serving as foremen and deals <br />with fire restoration work. <br />Chief Bryce stated that he attended the International <br />Association of Fire Chief's conference last week in St. <br />Louis with Chief Paul Klapprich of Wayzata. He stated <br />that it was a very informative training conference. He <br />stated that the Mound Fire Department was established in <br />1923 and currently has a force of 37 fire fighters. <br />Their equipment consists of 3 pumpers (1,000 gpm to <br />1,500 gpm), 1001. aerial ladder, grass rig, and heavy <br />duty van. Orono emergency calls to the Mound Fire Dept. <br />during 1985 to 1986 were 19% of the total calls; Orono's <br />1987 year -to -date calls are up to 23% of the total <br />calls. <br />In response to Mayor Grabek's question, Chief Bryce <br />stated that, based on what he saw at the conference, the <br />1 <br />
