MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL ]MEETING HELD JANUARY 12, 1987 <br />GERALD McCOURTNEY DONATION* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, for the Orono Council to accept <br />the generous donation of $750.00 from Gerald T. <br />McCourtney of McCourtney Plastics for bullet proof vests <br />and direct staff to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. <br />McCourtney. Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />POLICE OFFICER EMPLOYMENT* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, to grant the Administrator <br />authority to offer employment to an individual for the <br />position of Police Officer commencing January 25, 1987 <br />and subject to the Council's confirmation of appointment <br />on February 9, 1987. Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />REVISED CALENDAR - PARR COMMISSION MEETING DATES* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, to approve the Park Commission <br />meeting schedule as follows: <br />September to April - lst Monday of the month <br />May to August - 1st Tuesday of the month <br />Motion, Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />1987 PATROL CAR PURCHASE* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, that Council authorize the <br />purchase of three full size Chevrolet squad cars from <br />Thane Hawkins Polar Chevrolet in White Bear Lake, MN for <br />a total purchase price of $33,414.00. Motion, Ayes 4, <br />Nays 0. <br />PRIVATE ROADS <br />City Administrator explained the information relative to <br />potential additions to City owned road system. <br />Councilmember Sime voiced concern regarding the County <br />turn back of roads to Orono which would increase Orono's <br />road maintenance by 20 %. Can something be done to avoid <br />accepting these roads. <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Peterson, to accept staff's information regarding <br />upcoming road issues and to direct staff to work to <br />develop more accurate cost estimates at the point <br />requests for turnbacks are made; and also to resist in <br />every way possible in accepting the County road <br />turnbacks.
