ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR NOVEMBER 22, 1999 <br />• ( #2530 William Wear, Continued) <br />Weinberger noted that the requested signage would be a conditional use. <br />Tom Barrett, City Attorney, stated that the City Council may elect to revoke the conditional <br />use permit if the owner of the property is not in compliance with the City's terms and <br />conditions. Barrett suggested that the City Council table this item until January to give the <br />property owner time to resolve the situation. <br />Kelley commented that he is not in favor of the type of signage being proposed for this site. <br />Ramhill stated that they have downsized the sign significantly to bring the property into <br />compliance, noting that he is planning to erect a monument type sign. <br />Bill Stoddard, Planning Commission Representative, stated the Planning Commission reviewed <br />the previous resolution that had been approved for this property, which allowed 573 square feet <br />of signage, and the requirements allowed under the current ordinance, which allows up to a <br />maximum of 380 square feet of signage. Stoddard noted that the Applicant has reduced the <br />total signage on this property at the request of the Planning Commission. <br />Mayor Jabbour suggested that the owner of the Conoco Station turn off the canopy lights at <br />• night until the situation is resolved. <br />Ramhill commented that he has attempted to improve the property by removing the old signs <br />and installing a new canopy with recessed lights as well as a new sign. Ramhill indicated that <br />for security purposes a well -lit area is desirable. Ramhill reiterated that he was operating <br />under the assumption that the light situation was in the process of being resolved, and requested <br />that his sign be approved. <br />Mayor Jabbour stated since the property owner is operating with a conditional use permit, the <br />property must be brought into compliance prior to any new conditional use permits being <br />issued on the property. Jabbour pointed out that the existing conditional use permit can be <br />revoked if the property is not in compliance with the required terms and conditions. <br />Flint stated that the light situation is an important issue and needs to be resolved before <br />approval on this application can be granted. <br />Sansevere suggested that Ramhill work with Wear to resolve this issue. <br />Ramhill commented that he was unaware that the lights were an issue with the adjoining land <br />owners. <br />Kelley moved, Peterson seconded, to table Application #2530, 2160 Wayzata Boulevard, <br />• to allow the Applicant time to resolve the lighting situation. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />
