� MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNTNG COMMISSION MEETING <br /> Monday,June 19,2006 <br /> 6:00 dclock p.m. <br /> (#06-3208 RYAN COMPANIES, CONTINUED) <br /> Rahn closed the public hearing at 7:44 p.m. <br /> Helpka stated the selection of the materials is somewhat driven by the existing building and how that <br /> could be improved and integrated with the new buildings. Helpka stated the Quik Brik is basically a <br /> concrete masonry unit,or CMiJ,which has been accepted by other cities as a brick material. Helpka <br /> stated they are complying with the 67/33 ratio required in the City's ordinance. Helpka indicated they <br /> are proposing to use the reddish colored block as a highlight. <br /> Helpka illustrated the location of the existing building and the layout of the three new buildings. Helpka <br /> indicated the new buildings are 33,000 square foot buildings and that the buildings will be geared more <br /> towards office use,with one building being geared towards office/warehouse use. Helpka sta.ted they <br /> would be using a burnished brick on the buildings as well. <br /> Kroeger inquired whether the signage shown in the renderings is compliant with the City's ordinance. <br /> Helpka stated it is. <br /> Jurgens stated Quik Brik is not brick and inquired whether it meets the City's requirement. <br /> Turner stated that is a determination Staff would like the Planning Commission to make. <br /> Jurgens stated it is still a concrete block. <br /> Helpka indicated the material is called quick brick and goes through a different finishing process than <br /> concrete. Helpka indicated it is 12 inches thick and can be installed quickly. Helpka stated they are <br /> currently using it in two medical office buildings and that Target has utilized this material in many of <br /> the newer Target stores. <br /> Rahn inquired whether there would be grouted joints. <br /> Helpka stated there are grouted joints and that in his view it is brick. <br /> Gaffron inquired whether there are any buildings nearby that the Planning Commission members could <br /> review. <br /> Helpka indicated he could provide a list of buildings that utilize the Quik Brik. Helpka stated they <br /> started using this product approximately six to eight months ago. <br /> McJilton stated Maple Grove did approve use of the Quik Brik recently. <br /> Bremer inquired what the price difference is between Quik Brik and actual brick. <br /> PAGE 15 <br />
