MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br /> Monday,May 15,2006 <br /> 6:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> (#06-3203 JAMIE WILSON,CONTINLTED) <br /> Johnson stated with regard to the hardship,the Planning Commission should look at how to preserve the <br /> character of the area. Johnson noted the residence on the property is historic and that they would like to <br /> maintain the current character of the neighborhood. Johnson stated this is the alternative to creating <br /> another accessory structure. <br /> Johnson noted the neighbors have not expressed any opposition to this proposal. <br /> Johnson stated there is approximately 2.5 acres of the lot that is located within that 150' setback and that <br /> the overall hardcover for this lot is well below the amount allowed by the City. Johnson stated there is <br /> not a negative environmental impact that exists with this proposal. <br /> Rahn stated in his opinion it would be more intrusive if another freestanding building were constructed. <br /> Erickson commented they have looked at a number of different options and that this one is the cheapest <br /> and less obtrusive alternative. <br /> Bremer noted that former Planning Commissioner Liz Hawn and her husband have voiced their support <br /> for this application. <br /> Kempf acknowledged that adding another building to the site has a downside. <br /> Bremer moved,Rahn seconded,to recommend approval of Application#06-3203,Jamie Wilson, <br /> 745 Spring Hill Road,lakeshore setback variance,subject to the applicants executing the standard <br /> covenant for accessory structures based on the expanded building. VOTE: Ayes 4,Nays 1, <br /> Kempf opposed. <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION COMMENTS <br /> 14. REPORT OF PLANNING COMMISSION REPRESENTATIVES ATTENDING <br /> COUNCIL MEETINGS APRIL 24 AND MAY 22,2006 <br /> Gaffron stated the Broitzman application was tabled at the Apri124`h meeting. <br /> Kempf reported on the May 22 City Council meeting,noting that the City Council requested Broitzman <br /> relocate the driveway out the front and to reduce the massing on the lot,which resulted in the Broitzman <br /> application being tabled. Kempf stated the Radke application was approved. Kempf stated the Council <br /> expressed the same concerns as the Planning Comxnission on the Morries application and that a tour of <br /> the property was scheduled with the Council. <br /> PAGE 36 <br />
