MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br /> • <br /> Monday,June 20,2005 <br /> 6:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> (#05-3121 Narrows Saloon,Continued) <br /> Tamera Walmar,Mound, stated the Narrows Saloon has great food and great music. Walmar indicated <br /> she does bring her child to the bar for lunch and that they visit the park and she has not experienced any <br /> problem with crossing the street. Walmar stated the beautification of Navarre has to start with some <br /> business and that the Narrows Saloon has probably been the main the business to help revitalize this area. <br /> Dan Hessberg stated he has resided in this area since 1968 and he has seen how the Narrows Saloon has <br /> helped to revitalize the community. Hessberg stated in his opinion the bar has helped to expand not just <br /> Navarre but the lake area in general and that he is 100 percent in support of the project. <br /> Mike Cummings, 10 Woodpecker Ridge Road,Tonka Bay, indicated he has worked law enforcement and <br /> corrections for the past 35 years and that he likes to visit the Narrows Saloon. Cummings stated the <br /> Narrows Saloon is one of the few places he can visit and feel comfortable. <br /> Jane Cameron stated the Narrows Saloon has helped to bring the community together and has helped the <br /> economy of the Navarre area. <br /> Mark Schmidt, 3499 Lyric Avenue, stated in his opinion there is some exaggeration concerning the <br /> amount of noise from the Narrows Saloon and the lack of parking in the area. Schmidt noted the highway <br /> is already busy and that the expansion will not significantly raise the amount of traffic in the area. <br /> Schmidt stated he fully supports the expansion. <br /> The public hearing portion of the meeting was closed at 10:13 p.m. <br /> Sudheimer pointed out they are not expanding the bar area but rather the restaurant portion of the <br /> building. Sudheimer stated they would like to accommodate the families that like to frequent the Narrows <br /> Saloon as well as create a banquet area,which necessitates the need to expand the kitchen. <br /> Anderst stated they are willing to revise their plan somewhat. <br /> Sudheimer stated the outdoor seating area would be contained and sheltered somewhat. Sudheimer stated <br /> they would like to work with the City to arrive at a plan that works for everybody. <br /> Rahn inquired whether alcohol would be served in the outdoor seating area. <br /> Sudheimer stated they currently have 17 tables and that they would like to expand the seating area. <br /> Sudheimer indicated they would like to serve alcohol in that area. <br /> Anderst stated there would not be music in the outdoor eating area. <br /> Kempf stated he is in agreement with a majority of the comments expressed tonight and that the Narrows <br /> Saloon is an asset to the Navarre area. Kempf indicated he would like to see an interior expansion of the <br /> facility. Kempf noted he does reside in the area and has not noticed a great deal of noise from the <br /> Narrows Saloon. Kempf commented the neighbors in close proximity to the Narrows Saloon do have to <br /> PAGE 35 <br />
