MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br /> August 20,2001 <br /> (Boat Storage,Continued) <br /> Hawn recommended Item C be changed to allow boats to be a maximum of 44 feet or no more than <br /> 13.5 feet high to be stored on residential property under certain circumstances. Hawn stated 13.5 feet <br /> would cover most Winnebagos and things of that sort. <br /> It was the consensus of the Planning Commission to amend the language to allow boats to be a <br /> maximum of 44 feet in length or 13.5 feet in height. <br /> Hawn inquired what the Planning Commission feels about the screening requirement. <br /> Welsh stated the screening requirement should be removed. <br /> Hawn suggested that the language should state that vegetative screening should be used whenever <br /> possible,but not make it a requirement. <br /> Mabusth stated screening issues could be raised with the conflict resolution board and used as a possible <br /> solution to a problem. <br /> It was the consensus of the Planning Commission to remove the requirement regarding screening of <br /> boats. <br /> Hawn inquired whether the 2.0 acres should be eliminated. <br /> It was the consensus of the Planning Commission to eliminate the language concerning the 2.0 acres. <br /> (Smith returns at 10:23 p.m.) <br /> Hawn inquired what thoughts the Planning Commission had regarding the setbacks. <br /> Lindquist stated the City requires the property owners to comply with setback requirements on other <br /> structures and RVs, and in his opinion this requirement should remain for exterior storage of boats. <br /> Hawn, Berg, and Kluth indicated they are in agreement with leaving the setback requirement in the <br /> ordinance. <br /> Welsh inquired about the situation where a property owner has a garage located 10 feet from the lot line, <br /> there is a five or six fence along the property line and they store a fishing boat along the property line. <br /> Welsh stated the boat is not a permanent structure. <br /> Lindquist stated the City would look at it when there is a complaint received. <br /> It was the consensus of the Planning Commission to leave the requirement concerning the ten-foot <br /> setback in the ordinance. <br /> It was the consensus of the Planning Commission that the screening language contained in Item E be <br /> stricken. <br /> PAGE 25 <br />
