The system consists of 2-1300 gallon septic tanks, 1-
1300 gallon pumping chamber a pressurized mound system with a 10' x 68' rock bed.
The rock bed is hydraulically overloaded & is discharging in the northwest corner of the
rock bed which is classified as an imminent health hazard & must be repaired or
disconnected within 10 months or as determined by the City of Orono.
oil borings completed into the rock bed found no black soils above the rock which
indicates the rock bed has not been overloaded for a long period of time. Long term
overloading would allow soil to settle where the rock sand meet. Soil boring #1 found
mottled soil (redox features) at 20" below the surface & the bottom of the rock bed was
found at elevation 89.8 & the original soil at elev.88.5 which leaves 1.3' of sand below
the rock bed. Soil boring #2 found mottled soil at 28" below the surFace &the bottom of
the rock bed at elev.89.7 & the original soil at elev.88.1 which leaves 1.5' of sand below
the rock bed. This system meets a 3' separation from the bottom of the rock bed & the
redox features & is classified as in compliance with Minnesota Chapter 7080 rules. Soil
borings through the mound & soil probing along the downslope toe of the mound found
fihe sand to be dry, no overloading.
The proposal is a Multi Flo Class 1
Aerobic Wastewater Treatment System or a unit that is equal to the Multi-Flo that has
positive filtration. The highly treated, filtered effluent produced by the Multi-Flo is over
95% free of the normal sewage contaminants that cause the progresive failure of
conventional systems. The unit will be a 750 gal/day. A trash trap is installed in front
of the Multi-Flo. The unit requires to be serviced 2 times a year which will be done by
Schirmers Wastewater Treatment Systems, Inc. A 2 year service & parts warranty
comes with the purchae of the unit. After that time, the homeowner is required to carry
a Service Contract at $150.00 a year (2006 price). A report is sent to the homeowner,
city, MPCA & Multi-Flo yearly.
