Of course we had to clean it up ourselves Sunday August 9th since we were not aware of <br /> when the issue would be addressed and we were afraid that more rain might be on the way. In any event we <br /> personally did the work and as you can see by the first few attached pictures that not only was it an issue of <br /> mud on the patio but mud stopping up our patio drains. <br /> You did send a young man out to sweep what little was left and did lay down a few more "silt" bags. We <br /> indicated to the young man that we didn't think that would resolve the problem and also expressed our concern <br /> about not having the area "Capped" as the banks of dirt might collapse. He said he would relay our concerns. <br /> We hate to say our concerns proved valid. With the rains we just had, an even greater amount of mud poured <br /> onto our patio and the amount of mud stopping up our drains was enormous. We are fairly certain we now will <br /> need to have a sewer service firm come out to flush and remove all the dirt that tried to wash down the <br /> drain. The second set of pictures indicates how bad it was with over 7 inches of dirt being piled up. These <br /> pictures will be attached to a second e-mail as we are restricted to the total attachment size per e-mail. <br /> This time we are not cleaning it up ourselves and if it is not cleaned up (or we do not hear from you) by Monday <br /> noon (August 23rd) we intend to employ a firm to do so along with the sewer service firm. We would expect <br /> you to pay for the cost of the cleanup. <br /> More importantly, we feel it is essential to "cap" the raw excavation and finish the appropriate grading NOW to <br /> prevent this from being a reoccurring issue. In the alternative, another solution might be to remove back-fill <br /> from the garage foundation sufficient to make the dirt be lower than the patio by at least a foot and to keep it <br /> that way after every rain. <br /> We are asking that the City of Orono inspect the property now and review with you what plan you will <br /> implement to ensure that there will be no further runoff of mud from the project onto our patio and into our <br /> drains during the remainder of the construction. <br /> After seeing the roof lines and the amount of water that will come off of the structure (especially with the <br /> garage roof sloping toward the patio) we are growing skeptical that the final grading and existing plan will <br /> prevent water from flowing on-to our patio unless the end-cap is actually a concrete wall. It appears you <br /> intended to use the salvaged timbers as end cap material and that definately would not prevent the water <br /> 3 <br />
