Minutes <br />Planning Commission Regular Meeting <br />Monday, March 16, 2026, 6:00 PM <br />City Council Chambers 2780 Kelley Parkway, Orono, MN 55356 <br />Chair Ressler called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />1. ROLL CALL <br />Orono Planning Commission members present: Chair Jon Ressler, Commissioners Chris Bollis, Andrew <br />Jarnot, Kelly Prchal, Sam Tift (arrived at 6:05 p.m.), and Shane Weltzin. Commissioner Thomas <br />Bradabur was absent. <br />Staff present: Community Development Director Laura Oakden and Ciry Planner Melanie Curtis. <br />2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br />3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />Prchal moved, Bollis seconded to approve the Agenda. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />4. APPROVAL OF PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 17, <br />2026 <br />Bollis moved, Welztin seconded, to approve the minutes of the Orono Planning Commission <br />meeting of February 17, 2026. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />5. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />5.1. LA26-000008, Brent Walton, 2405 Dunwoody Ave., Hardcover Variance. <br />The Planning Commission is requested to review the Staff report, receive a presentation, and discuss and <br />approve a variance to convert the driveway hardcover to a garage hardcover. The proposal would reduce <br />the total amount of hardcover. Staff agrees that the shape of the lot presents a practical difficulty. <br />The Planning Commission discussed the item and asked questions of staff. The applicant was not present. <br />Chair Ressler opened the public hearing at 605 p.m. <br />There were no Public Comments. <br />Chair Ressler closed the public hearing at 6:05 p.m. <br />Commissioner Tift joined the meeting at 6:05 p.m. <br />Commissioners supported the decrease in hardcover. <br />Prchal moved, Jarnot seconded, to approve LA26-000008, 2405 Dunwoody Ave., Hardcover <br />Variance as applied. VOTE: Ayes: 6, Nays: 0. <br />5.2. LA26-000006, Dovetail Renovation o/b/o the Property Owner, 2090 Shoreline Drive, Average <br />Lakeshore Setback Variance. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />3 <br />
