The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br /> <br />CITY OF ORONO <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Chief of Police <br />Document Date: February 26, 2026 <br />Department: Police <br />Accountable to: City Administrator <br />FLSA Status: Exempt <br /> <br />Nature of Work <br />As the Chief Administrative Officer of the Police Department, this position provides leadership <br />for law enforcement in Orono which will command the respect and confidence of department <br />personnel and citizens at all times. Plans, develops, and supervises a department of trained law <br />enforcement officers to enforce the laws and ordinances for the protection of life and property, <br />and for the preservation of law and order. <br /> <br />Supervision Received and Exercised <br />Work is performed independently with guidance and direction from the City Administrator. This <br />position supervises Police Department staff, including: deputy chief, sergeants, office manager, <br />administrative support positions and officers. The Chief has indirect responsibility, through the <br />sergeants, for all police officers and other personnel assigned to the Police Department. <br /> <br />Examples of Work <br />Essential functions listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that <br />may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the <br />work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. <br /> <br />Manages <br /> Oversees police services and activities including patrol, investigations, administrative <br />support and community engagement for the all of the communities served by the <br />department. <br /> Establishes and manages the goals and objectives for the Police Department to ensure <br />compliance with City Council and City Administration directives, community <br />expectations, and all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations. <br /> Coordinates the City's emergency preparedness function as directed by the City <br />Administrator. <br /> Formulates, implements and monitors effective procedures and practices for directing and <br />81
