SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION - Maw 19 <br />Filing Dates: <br />April 4 <br />First <br />day <br />to apply for absentee ballot <br />April b <br />First <br />day <br />to file for office <br />April 21 <br />Last <br />day <br />to file for office <br />May 18 <br />Lust <br />day <br />to apply for absentee ballot <br />May 19 <br />Annual <br />School <br />Board ELECTION DAY <br />Polling Places -_will be the same as last year: <br />*Maple Plain City Hall 7 AM - 8 PM <br />Orono Middle School 7 AM - 8 PM <br />Orono City Hall 7 AM - 8 PM <br />*Designated as easiest access for the handicapped <br />Candidate Qualifications: <br />1) 21 or more years of age at beginning of the term of <br />office <br />2) a citizen of the United States <br />3) a resident of the school district for 30 days previous <br />to the election <br />Absentee Voti.91 Any person who is otherwise eligible <br />to vote in the school board election <br />may vote by absentee ballot for the following reasons: <br />1) a physical disability that prevents his/her going <br />to the polls or voting in the voting booth at the polls; <br />2) his/her religious discipline makes himiher unable to <br />appear at the polling place at the time the election is <br />held; or, 3) he/she expects to be absent from the dis- <br />trict at the time of election. <br />How to Apply for An application for an absentee <br />an ADsent_. Ballot ballot must be made no more than 45 <br />d..ys nor lees than one (1) day before the election. <br />The application for the absent-, ballot must be made <br />either in person or by mail to the Clerk of Independent <br />School District #278, District Office, 685 Old Crystal <br />Bay Road, Long Lake, MN 55356, phone 473-7313. When <br />the application has been signed and received by the <br />Clerk of the school district, the Clerk will remit the <br />ballot to the qualified applicant by mail or the appli- <br />cant mby personally pick up the ballot in the District <br />Office. The marked absentee ballots must be received <br />via the 1'.5. mail or hand delivered before the polls <br />close the day .,f the election. <br />Voter Fligf.biliq An eligible voter for a school dis- <br />trict election shall he a person who <br />at the time of the election: 1) is 18 or more years of <br />age; 2) is a citizen of the United States; 3) is a res- <br />ident of the school district; and, 4) has resided in <br />Minnesota for 20 days. <br />Fxcerpts from Minne*nta Subd. 27. (a) It shall be un- <br />statu_tes 123.32�y -` lawful for any person within <br />100 feet of the building in <br />which any polling place to situated on the day of elec- <br />tion to ask, solicit, or in any manner try to ir.d!,r or <br />persuade any voter on such election day to vote t.r or <br />refrain from voting for any candidate or measure <br />submitted to the people. <br />(b) No person shall buy, sell, give, or provide any <br />political badges, buttons, or other insignia to be <br />worn at or about the polls on the day of election and <br />no such political bodge, button, or other insignia <br />shall be wern at or about the polls on election day. <br />(c) No political signs or advertising designed to <br />Influence a voter on a question or candidate shall be <br />displayed within 100 feet of the building in which <br />the polling place is located on the day of election. <br />Excerpt from Minr i "Any person or committee <br />Statute 210A.03 who shall publish. Issue, 11 <br />post or circulate, or cause i <br />to be published, issued, posted, or circulated, other- <br />wise than in a newspaper, as provided in section <br />210A.05, subdivision 1, any literature, campaign mate- <br />rials or any publication, including but not limited to <br />cards, pamphlets, flyers, signs, banners, leaflets, <br />tending to influence at any primary or election which <br />fails to bear on the face thereof the name and address <br />of the author, the name of the candidate in whose b.:half <br />the same is published, issued, posted, or circulated, <br />and the name and address of any other person or coeaeit- <br />tee causing the same to be published, issued, posted, <br />or circulated, shall he guilty of a misdemeanor; pro- <br />vided nothing herein contained shall be construed as <br />modifying or repealing any of the provision of section <br />110A.04." <br />
