MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELV LARCH 30, 198-i <br />CRYSTAL BAY SEWER PROJECT CONTINUED <br />It was moved by Mayor Grabek, seconded by Councilmember <br />Goetten, to table this matter until the April 13, 198" <br />Council meeting. Motion, Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT: <br />Mayor Grabek stated that he would not be present at the <br />next Council Meeting because he will be on vacation. <br />CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT: <br />CITY HALL -PUB: -7'­ `.1J AKS STUDY - <br />CONSULTANTS <br />City Administrator BernhF- '-on stated that additional <br />information has been , ested from each of the <br />proponents regarding an e. ale of their space studies <br />in order to provid? a more objective analysis. <br />Councilmember Callahan stated that study is apparently <br />being done due to apparent problems with the current. <br />facility being zoning & building code violations, need <br />for more space, and needs to provide better public <br />service. He felt that prior to hiring a firm to solve <br />these problems, a written report from staff should be <br />submitted outlining the violations, deficiencies and/or <br />inefficiencies. <br />CouncilmeLiber Goetten felt Councilmember Callahan's <br />request was justified, noting that the City is <br />proceeding in a slow and careful. manner. <br />Jet ry wheeler, 3399 Crystal Bay Road, stated tt,;!t some <br />of the area residents may be opposed to expanding the <br />City Hall facilities. The reason being it would not <br />remain a residential community and the fear of Orono's <br />population dcubl.ing. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson stated that. currently <br />Orono's popula•ion is Estimated at 7,300, and given the <br />current zoning it is anticipated that the population <br />could grow 30% over the next 12-15 years to <br />approxi.riAtely 9,000-10,000. <br />Gary Printup, 1261 Briar Street, questioned the growth <br />of City staff in rel.tion to pop►.:ation and an enlarged <br />facility, feeling a lid should bo placed on staff <br />growth. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson explained some reasons <br />(contract services with other communities) for Orono's <br />staff size which are not found in other communities.
