REGUL.%R tiEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, DECEI BER 12, 1977 <br />Thank you for being concerned about the welfare of <br />all Orono citizens. <br />End of letter <br />The Public Hearing was closed at 8:50 P.H. <br />Discussion followed. <br />Councilmember Pesek: We should review the <br />petitioners comments. <br />Councilmember Paurus: We should possibly review <br />the beach area in question. <br />Mayor Van Nest: I believa the City should deny the <br />petition to close the beach area and request the Park <br />Commission to recommend controls such as gates and <br />signs regulating hours, closing time, and doqs. <br />Mr. Dick Oliver: Who will control the kids? <br />Mr. John Th.rtman: Who will prosecute? Who will <br />respond? We want action now. <br />Mayor Van Nest: We will proviue service but we <br />need you to call the police department when there <br />is a problem. vur records indicate that there have <br />been few comp':.aints on the area. <br />Mrs. Fritz: The petitioners either have their own <br />beach or they have no children! The beach area <br />serves more then the residents next to it. <br />Councilmen�)er Pesek: I feel we should review this <br />next summer and possibl;• consider fencing and a <br />li`equard. <br />F,es,i•x m(-ved, Paurus seconded, to deny petition to <br />close the Sandy Beach swimming area based upon no <br />records to substantiate petition, and to request <br />staff and Park Commission to close area to vehicular <br />traffic and snowmobiles, install gate, and to install <br />signs regulating hours, use of area, and parkin with <br />Council review September, 1978.
