Liquor Operations Dated 11/10/86 <br />ISSUE - Action Council desires regarding the future of municipal <br />iiquor based on public input at the scheduled public hearing. <br />DISCUS_S_ION - At you November 10, 1986 Council meeting the Council <br />moved to set public hearing on December 8, 1986 to consider <br />discontinuance of municipal liquor by September 30, 1987. <br />An official notice was placed in the newspapers together with <br />articles placed in the four newspapers serving the community. <br />Based on preliminary discussions there may possibly be buyers who <br />would like to have the change over from municipal liquor to <br />private liquor start earlier in the year, it the Council is <br />inclined to so undertake. <br />IECO14MENDATION - It is staff's recommendation that following the <br />public hearing the Council direct staff as to the Council's <br />direction for continuance or discontinuance of municipal .liquor. <br />In addition to preparing to sell the store the staff would <br />a('ditionally nee6 to undertake development of a private off -sale <br />liquor licensing ordinance to be ready to be put into place prior <br />to the sale of the store. <br />PROPOSED MOTION - floved by _, seconded by _, that Council <br />direct staff regarding continuance of municipal liquor and <br />that it 1)e directed to be sold by September 30, 1987 or an <br />earlier date if deemed desireable. Additionally staff is <br />directed to develop by 30 1larch 1987 an off -sale liquor licensing <br />ordinance in order to commence the appropriate licensing <br />procedure and investigation.
