53 <br />MINNETONKA POWER SQUADRON COURSE OFFERINGS <br />BOATING -The safe boating course offered to the general public. <br />BOATING SAFELY -New course designed to teach safe boating to young <br />people. <br />ADVANCED GRADES (A sequence of courses) <br />SEAMANSHIP -Teaches general safe boating handling knowledge. <br />PILOTING -Introduction to course plotting techniques. <br />ADVANCED PILOTING -Advanced course plotting for tides and currents. <br />JUNIOR NAVIGATION -Basic celestial navigation skills. <br />NAVIGATION -Further development of basic celestial navigation skills <br />and introduction to a number of special navigational problems. <br />ELECTIVE COURSES (Taken in any order) <br />WEATHER -Introduces weather concepts and builds awareness to <br />application of concepts to safe boating. <br />SAIL -Teaches fundamental sailing skills. <br />INTRUCTOR QUALIFICATION -Develops presentation and lesson planning <br />skills. <br />CRUISE PLANNING -The multitude of factors to be considered prior to <br />taking a short or long cruise are studied. <br />ENGINE MAINTENANCE -This course teaches fundamentals of boat engine <br />systems. <br />MARINE ELECTRONICS -Builds a comfort level in students toward their <br />boat's electrical systems. <br />SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS (Self teaching materials) <br />Water Skilling <br />Boat Insurance <br />Oceanography <br />Hand Tools <br />Navigational Astronomy <br />Compass Adjusting <br />Amateur Radio <br />Boat Design and Construction <br />Predicted Log Contest <br />Preparation for Coast Guard License <br />Coast Guard License Rules of Road <br />Coast Guard License 6 Pack to Master <br />Calculators for Navigation <br />Introduction to Sailing <br />Sight Reduction Methods <br />CIVIC ORGANIZATION PROGRAM <br />Minnetonka Power Squadron sponsors a "ship" of the Sea Explorers. For <br />further information about this organization call: Merlyn Johnson at <br />934-2809. <br />1. <br />MINNETONKA POWER SQUADRON GOALS <br />1994-95 <br />Attain District 10 Three Star Squadron status through efforts of <br />all departments. <br />2. Obtain district membership goal of 379 by 31 January 1995. <br />3. <br />4. <br />5. <br />6. <br />7. <br />Every new member will be aware of their opportunities and <br />responsibilities and have an involvement and education plan <br />prepared. <br />Remain a full service educational organization by offering a <br />minimum of one class in every advanced grade and elective course <br />during the year. <br />Ask that new members complete Seamanship, Piloting, Operations <br />Training, and earn a Merit Mark during the first two years of <br />membership. <br />Conduct expanded' Liaison activities with Boat/US, U.S. Coast <br />Guard Auxiliary, Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol, <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and Lake Minnetonka <br />Conservation District. <br />In conjunction with the St Paul Squadron, host the District 10 <br />Rendezvous at Red Wing. 22-24 July i994. <br />54
