49 <br />MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURE <br />UNITED STATES POWER SQUADRONS <br />AND <br />. MINNETONKA POWER SQUADRON <br />USPS is recognized as a leader of SAFE BOATING THROUGH EDUCATION <br />in the yachting world. To maintain this position we <br />must continue to attract and invite into our <br />membership candidates who will become involved active <br />members. In general, any person 18 years of age or older, who <br />is a citizen of the United States may be admitted to <br />membership provided certain other requirements are met. <br />A candidate must have: <br />1. Shown an interest in becoming a member of the USPS. <br />2. Indicated a willingness to contribute time, energy and skill <br />to the objectives of the USPS . <br />3. A desire to learn more about the fun of SAFE boating. <br />4. Be socially acceptable to the members of the Squadron. <br />5. Passed the prescribed examination demonstrating a sufficient <br />ievel of boating knowledge. (Normally, satisfactory <br />completion of the Boating Course). <br />There are no membership restrictions with regard to sex, color, <br />religion, or heritage. <br />The Prospective member will be invited to a meeting at which the <br />Membership requirements and procedures as well as the <br />organization of the USPS will be explained. There will be an <br />opportunity for the .candidates to get answers to any questions <br />they may have concerning USPS. Each candidate will be <br />interviewed by a member of the Membership Committee to determine <br />his or her suitability and desire to become a member of USPS. <br />Active members who meet these requirements may invite any <br />qualified friend or associate to become a member. <br />All sponsors are expected to attend this meeting to <br />introduce the candidate and assure that he or she is made <br />to feel comfortable and welcome. <br />NEW members accepted to membership in the USPS are expected to <br />complete the following requirements during the first 24 <br />months of membership: <br />1. Attend Operations Training. <br />2. Earn at least one Merit Mark. <br />3. Successfully complete Seamanship and Piloting. <br />FAMILY MEMBERS POLICY <br />Family membership is available to the members of the family of an <br />Active Member. The term "family" includes the spouse of the Active <br />Member and all persons related by blood, legal adoption or marriage <br />who are at least 12 years of age and less than 25 years of age and who <br />reside with or are dependents of the Active Member. The invitation to <br />family memberhship is subject to the same criteria of objective <br />judgment by the Membership ment by the Membership Committee as <br />invitation is extended to any prospect for active membership. <br />Family Members are not entitled to hold office, wear the uniform, fly <br />the Ensign, or earn Merit Marks, but are entitled to take all USPS <br />educational courses offered by the Squadron and participate in the <br />social activities as any Active Member. <br />Upon the termination of the membership of the Active Member, the <br />Family Memberships following there from wili also terminate unless the <br />Family Member qualifies, is invited by the Executive Committee and <br />elects to become an Active Member of the Squadron. <br />A Family Member upon becoming an Active Member of the USPS, will <br />be entitled to wear, on an approved uniform, the grade insignia <br />representative of the Advanced Grades passed while a Family <br />Member. <br />(Additional information concerning Family Membership may <br />be found in USPS Bylaws Chapter 11, Section 11.63A ). <br />!iO
