-4- <br />Consideration for a major regional park could include: <br />(1) Acquisition consideration - 382.26*- acres <br />(Hagen & Mason - 220i acres; Edgar Ward Blanch, Jr. - 90.26 <br />acres; Vern Gagne - 54 acres; and A. & J. Brachmeier - 18 acres) <br />(2) Possible facilities and/or activities <br />Boat launch with do :k <br />(Halsteds & Smithtown Bay) <br />Shore fishing docks <br />Boat rental <br />Picnicking <br />Swimming <br />Bike/hike trails <br />Entry control <br />Maintenance storage building <br />Outdoor recreation center building <br />Ski touring <br />Ice skating Parking <br />Parking <br />Restroomns <br />Water <br />Trash collection <br />In addition to the possibilities just outlined there may be other <br />opportunities for which there may be community support. Six -Mile Creek is one <br />possibility, a Lake Minnetonka Historical Cultural Center is another -- to <br />name just two. The planning process should identify additional possibilities, <br />determine the degree of community support, and their feasibility. <br />�PIrL'lly <br />Based on the land/property available, there appears to be potential for a <br />major regional park on Lake Minnetonka. Hennepin Parks seeks input from LMCD, <br />the City of Minnetrista and other coummunities, neighborhood and user groups <br />and others about their attitude tcwards regional park facilities on the L. a <br />with the objective of determining the need for additional access and what size <br />area and what range of facilities and opportunities ities should be provided. <br />Toward that end, Hennepin Parks proposes the following proces, for planning a <br />regional park entity on Lake Minnetonka: <br />I. A boat and bus tour of the Lake -�rea for Hennepin Parks Board members, <br />LMCD, and others - September 20, 1986, 10:00 a.m., Al & Alma's <br />Supper Club, 5201 Piper Road, Mound. <br />II. A series of meetings held around the Lake to determine the need for a <br />regional park - <br />o Lake Minnetonka Conservation District - September 24, 1986, <br />7:00 p.m., Tonka Bay City Nall. <br />o Area Legislators <br />o Neighborhood and User Groups <br />o Others <br />III. Review results of these meetings with the Hennepin Parks Board of <br />Commissioners - November <br />IV. Hennepin Parks Board of Commissioners assesses alternatives - <br />December <br />Site analysis <br />Costs <br />Preliminary determination of feasibility <br />
