Considering the only investment is inventory and old fixtures
approximately $100,000 - the return on investment is running 20%.
During this time the profits have provided the City with a Golf
Course ($150,000) plus cash for investments and the general fund.
The proposed work on County Road 15 of course is a concern for
the business. I'm sure it will have some effect, however our
location close to County Roar] 19 and Kelly Avenue is a piu3, also
with the Drug Store and Post Office next door, good parking and
accessability to Kelly Avenue the impact should not be too bad.
The other liquor stores on County Road 15 might be affected more.
As plans are being made to improve the Navarre area shopping, I
would think the City of Orono would like to take the lead in
being part of the business area showing the other businesses it
is a good location for growth.
I understand the decision on selling the Liquor Store has
probably already been made - if the reason is simply to get out
of the retail business I think the public should know this and a
good reason for giving up the income that has helped the
taxpayers. All the profits should be noted and all the employees
that have made it possible, including the profits and sales
increase for 1986.
The Orono Liquor Store has been a credit to the City, its
residents and the Lake Minnetonka area. We are all very proud to
have been part of making it the store it is today. If you have
any comments I would appreciate hearing from you.
