-3- <br />Jui_v 1982 Lake Minnetonka Task Force formed to prepare a report and <br />make recommendations to - the Governor and Legislature <br />addressing recreational use of Lake Minnetonka and adjacent <br />land. <br />May 1983 Legislature passes 1983 Minnesota Laws, Chapter 34, Sec(d), <br />that designated the public lands on Big Island as a <br />regional park. <br />May 31, 1983 Lake Minnetonka Task Force report adopted. Makes <br />recommendations on public access, lake surface use and <br />management and enforcement programs. The report <br />specifically recommends the acquisition of the Big Island <br />Veterans Camp for park purposes. <br />igust 4, 1983 Board of Commissioners approves purchase of two lots with <br />seasonal residence on north side of Big Island (Hvass <br />property) . <br />11 1984 Revisor's bill at Legislature contains language requiring <br />legislative approval to transfer ownership of Big Island <br />Veterans Camp. <br />1984 Department of Natural Resources proposal to Legislative <br />Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR) proposes $75,000 <br />to prepare a plan for the publicly owned land on Big <br />Island, including the Veterans Camp (subsequently deleted <br />frim funding by LC"R. <br />25, 1984 Tour of Lake Minnetonka by District, Metropolitan Council <br />Parks and Open Space Commission, Hennepin County Capital <br />Budgeting Task Force, Lake Minnetonka Conservation <br />District, Lake Minnetonka Task Force and legislative <br />representatives in attendance. <br />!r 1984 Department of V:terans Affairs, State of Minnesota, <br />determines, in conjunction with Veterans groups, that there <br />will be no Veterans Camp operation in 1985; thereby <br />involving the reversion clause in the State's deed. <br />Veterans groups will evidently lobby in 1985 Legislature <br />for funds to buy out the Veterans "interest" in the camp <br />property. <br />
