Lake Minnetonka Cable Communications Commission 443 OAK STREET • EXCELSIOR, MINNESOTA 55331 PRESS RELEASE TO: ALL EDITIONS - LOCAL NEWSPAPERS FROM: LAKE MINNETONKA CABLE COMMUNICATIONS C01V41SSION FOR: IMMEDIATE RELEASE RE: LAKE MINNETONKA NEWS AWARD • (612) 474'5539 I - The Lake Minnetonka News recently received a National Merit Award for government programming from N.A.T.O.A. (National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors). The award was presented to Holly Hansen, Administrator of the Lake Minnetonka Cable Communications Commission (LMCCC), by Brian Lamb, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of C-Span, at the N.A.T.O.A. annual conference in Philadelphia, PA on September 22nd. The entry submitted by the LMCCC contained excerpts of Lake Minnetonka News features on the Gray Freshwater Biological Institute, playground construction at Manitou Park in Tonka Bay, and city news items with co-anchors Dean Johnson and Beverly Meakins. The Lake Minnetonka News is a monthly half- ,r new proram that began production in April 1986 and is shown on the Dow -Sat Cable System on Channel 20. Each program contains features of special interest and news itesm submitted by LMC�., member cities. Regular contributors to the program have been the cities of Excelsior, Minnetrista, Orono, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, and Victoria. Special features have been produced on the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD), Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol, Minnetonka Power Squadron, school bus safety, and local farmers and markets. The Lake Minnetonka News is staffed by Cab1E Administrator Holly Hansen and Access Assistant Jay Borne, but would not be possible without the volunteer help of area residents. Regular volunteers on the program are Dean Johnson and Beverly Meakins of Shorewood, Tim Wiley of Excelsior, Linda Paulsen of Mound, al,d Jack Hastings from Minnetonka. Other volunteers who have contributed their efforts to the program include Bernice Nixon, Jim Olds, Andy Scholl, and Judy Degnan of Excelsior, Lesley Hughes --Seamans of Tonka Bay, and Sharon Conley of Plymouth. The Lake Minnetonka News is currently run on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. on Dow -Sat Cable Channel 20 and is repeated the following Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
