To:
Mark Bexnhardson, City Administrator
From:
John R. Gerhardson, Public Works Coordinator
AL
1! lain
Date:
June 30, 1986
Subject:
Driveway Apron Repair - 605 Stubbs Bay Road
41
On May 27, 1986, the Cit• of Orono received a written request from Mr.
Stephen Krogness, 605 North cubbs Bay Road requesting the City to repair
the driveway apron to his residence. Mr. Krogness' driveway is very wide
as it intersects at Stubbs Bay Road in excess of 100 feet. With the
balance of his driveway being 13 feet wide. This wide approach was
constructed several years ago by the previous owner.
I have talked with Mr. Krogness several times about the repair of the
driveway apron and have advised him that the City does not maintain
driveway approaches. I r10 agree that the very wide approach does encourage
public use as a turn a ur ,. Because Mr. Krogness complained about the
City vehicles using h-s drive approach as a turn around, I instructed City
personnel quite some tim, &.;o riot to turn around in his driveway.
Mr. Krogness does not agree with my decision, there -'-ore, he is
requesting Council action on this matter.
The area that needs repair is approximately 25x50 feet. I have
estimated the cost of repair for material and labor at $1055. This cost
does riot include equipment.
The opticns of Council are as follows:
1. Repair the drive approach as requested by Mr. Krogness. J55.00
2. Remove the bituminous from the street to the right-of-way
rc:;tore the drive approach and right-of-way back to gravel. $371.97
3. Remove th^ bitumino, from the street to the right-of-way, replace
only the bi uminous needed for an average width driveway approach
(20') and restore balance of right-of-way to gravel or black dirt and
seed. $1,036.42
4. Advisr Mr. Krogness that the City does not have any responsibility
for maint, ince or repair of drive approaches.
It is my recommendation the do not repair the drive approach as I
do not feel that City vehicles caused the damage plus the fact that
the balance of Mr. Krogness' driveway shows signs of severe deterioration.
To: Mayor Butler & Orono Council Members
From: Mark E. Bernhardson, City Administrator
Forwarded recommendation that Council approve staff recommendation.
PROPOSED MOTION - Moved by , seconded , to accept staff
_
recommendation not to repair drive approacY at 65Stubbs Bay Koad North.
Ayes , Nays
