1 <br />4. All people will picnic as close to a water body as <br />they are allowed or to which they can physically get. <br />GENERAL <br />1. The typical visitor parks as close to his final <br />destination as possible and then goes to his major <br />objective (beach, picnic table), and then to the <br />comfort station. <br />2. Most prefer to be able to have an opportunity to <br />swim. One in two want play fields and areas nearby. <br />One in three express a desire for hiking trails (33). <br />3. Most picnickers have a variety of equipment including <br />ice chest, supplies, cooking stove or grill, chairs, <br />blankets, radios, etc. <br />4. Picnic facilities with a view (especially of water) <br />are used more than those without a view (41). Pic- <br />nicking adjacent to swimming is usually heavily used. <br />5. Many picnic areas with partially shaded grass areas <br />will have a significant percentage of the users <br />picnicking informally without using tables. <br />1013 <br />
