XIII. PICNICKING <br />This type of park use appeals to all ages with particular <br />appeal to urbanites and normally originates within 1-1/2 <br />hours drive of the park (21, 33, 35). The day -use party <br />participates in an average of 2 to 2.5 activities. About 15 <br />to 20 percent of visitors excluding sightseers/transients <br />participate in only one activity. Prefer tables in open areas with scattered trees <br />or under low, coniferous canopy in preference to <br />high, deciduous canopy (43). <br />2. Definite preference for tables near parking areas. <br />Use drops off greatly over 60 feet (18 m) beyond a <br />parking area (about the length of many back yards) <br />and, given the opportunity, many picnickers will <br />drive right up to the picnic table (43). <br />3.
