March 25, 1997
Big Island Veterans Camp
Board of Governors
P.O. Box 598
Excelsior, MN 55331
Dear Dream 2001 Program Presenter:
MAR 2 7. 1997
On behalf of the Board of Governors, I would like to thank you for
your Dream 2001 Program presentation. The collective dedication
of the presenters made a strong statement on behalf of the Board of
Governors regarding our commitment to improving the Veterans' Camp.
Thank you.
Know this, "your efforts made a difference"! Last year we made a
commitment to raise the funds and assist in the development of a
well thought through architectural plan for the improvement of the
Big Island Veterans Camp. Veteran groups contributed over $10,000
for this plan, and we promised them that a draft architectural plan
would be completed and PRESENTED to them before May 1, 1997.
Thanks to you, WE MADE IT!
Know this, "planners for the City of Orono and members of the Lake
Minnetonka Conservation District were present". After the Dream
2001 Program, they came forward and indicated a strong level of
support for our planning efforts and expressed their appreciation
for having been invited. Good will and respect must be earned and
thanks to your Program contribution, we built upon a good start.
Now we must follow up and continue to jointly plan for the Camp's
development.
Our Camp, like relationships, must be built on promises kept. We
need to continue to engage the active support of veterans and
veterans groups to share in the vision of creating a family-
oriented Rest Camp that provides a high quality recreational
experience for disabled and non-disabled veterans, as well as for
their families.
At this time the May 1st Camp opening is nearly upon us. We must
make every effort to also focus upon doing everything we can to
inform and invite veterans to use the Camp. We must raise the
funds to operate the Camp this season, stay within budget, and
make all possible Camp improvements.
Again, we thank you. I want to remind you that you have an
invitation to "COME TO THE ISLAND" (I'll borrow the "other"
island's advertisement) this summer, AND COME OFTEN!
