Approved by the Orono Board of Education at the December 9, 1985 meeting <br />INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 278 <br />JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: <br />ACCOUNTABLE TO: <br />PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: <br />COMMUNITY EDUCATION <br />Early Childhood Family Education Coordinator <br />Community Education Director in cooperation with Early Childhood <br />Family Education Advisory Council and the Community Education <br />Advisory Council <br />A. To be responsible for asse-�,ing and identifying Early Child- <br />hood and Family Education needs within the community. <br />B. To be responsible for planning and orgainizing a program designed <br />for: (lj engaging the interest and talents of parents in re- <br />cognizing and meeting the emotional, intellectual, and physical <br />needs of children, (2) promoting healthy self -concepts among <br />family members, (3) sharing alternative child -rearing approaches <br />with parents and offering them a chance to share skills, tech- <br />niques, and ideas with each other, and (4) providing creative <br />learning experiences for both parents and children. <br />C. To be responsible for implementing and evaluating the Early <br />Childhood Family Education component of the District 278 <br />.Community Education Program and other appropriate programs for <br />young children and their parents. <br />D. Work with the staff of Schumann Elementary School to prepare <br />a sequential developmental plan that will provide learning from <br />preschool through elementary school. <br />MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: <br />The Early Childhood Family Education Coordinator, in cooperation with the Community Education <br />Director, Early Childhood Family riucation Advisory Council, and the Community Education Ad- <br />visory Council, shall be responsible for developing Early Childhood Family Education programs <br />within the seven program characteristics outlined in the 1984 legislation... <br />I. Programs to educate parents about the physical, mental and emotional development of <br />children. <br />2. Programs to enhance the skills of parents ir, providing for their children's learning and <br />development. <br />3. Learning experience for children and parent:. <br />4. Activities designed to evaluate children's physical, mental, emotional or behavioral <br />problems that may cause learning problems. <br />5. Education materials that may be borrowed for home use. <br />6. Information on community resources and referrals as needed. <br />7. Other programs and activities. <br />OTHER DUTIES: <br />1. Establish community awareness and acceptance of Early Childhood Family Education. <br />2. Conduct appropriate need., assessments and carry out the Early Childhood Family <br />Education Annual Plan. <br />3. Plan, organize, implement and evaluate Early Childhood Family Education programs. <br />4. Administer appropriate financial records and program reports. <br />5. Hires staff, provides training (paid and volunteer) and supervises staff in cooperation <br />with Community Education Director. <br />6. Purchase appropriate equipment and supplies. <br />7. Act as the liaison between the school and other community agencies, orgainzations <br />and area resources. <br />.4. Mork in cooperation with Early Childhood Family Education Task Force and Commnity <br />Education Advisory Council in developing Early Childhood Family Education programs. <br />9. Keep up-to-date with state requirements and with developments in the area of Early <br />Childhood Family Education. <br />10. Evaluate achievement and decide changes to improve program offerings. <br />11. PPrfurm other duties as assigned by the Community Education Director <br />
