City of ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. _ <br />A RESOLUTION REGARDING PARKING SLOTS FOR <br />'LONE 1 AS DETERMINED BY METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S TASK FORCE <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono contains 40% of the shoreline <br />on Lake Minnetonka, and <br />WHEREAS, Lake Minnetonka is an extremely valuable <br />natural and recreational resource, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono h gone to great lengths to <br />not only preservo but also improve Lake Minnetonka for the public <br />health, safety and welfare for all lake users and lake -shore <br />owners, and <br />WHEREAS, a Task Force on Lake Minnetonka recommended <br />among other items that 700 parking spots near free public <br />accesses, of the existing 1,172 be commited to be reliable spots <br />for such use, anti <br />WHEREAS, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District has <br />developed criteria and is seeking voluntary commitment of these <br />spots, and <br />WHEREAS, the Metrcpolitan Counc;il's Task Force on the <br />issue is encouraging commitment of tho3e 700 slots, and <br />WHEREAS, the M,,nnes(-)ta Department of Natural Resources <br />has purchased property on the Lake for additonal free public <br />access, and <br />WHEREAS, the safety of Loaters on the lake is 'Likely <br />impaired by additional numbers of boats on the 13ke due to <br />increased access, and <br />WHEREAS, Zone 1, the only zone in which there is an <br />existing free puhlic access .n Orono needing commitment of up to <br />79 additional spots to reach 139 reliable spots in the zone, and <br />WHEREAS, parking offsite of the public access on the <br />street can cause certain public safety concern_., and <br />WHEREAS, the demand tor ovorflow parking for th(, <br />Hendrickson access is limited to � ,, <br />G to 8. i mcn per s<_ason. <br />l <br />
