CITY OF ORONO <br />LIQUOR OPERATIONS <br />BUSINESS STRATEGY PLAN <br />I. OBJECTIVES FOR BUSINESS <br />A. PRODUCTS <br />1. Major - The retail sales of intoxicating liquor <br />including beer, wine and distilled spirits. <br />Together with low alcohol and no alcohol beverages. <br />2. Accessory - The retail sales of related products to <br />the liquor dispensary business, including soft <br />drinks, serving utensils, mixes and other assorted <br />accessories. <br />B. REASONS FOR BEING IN THE BUSINESS <br />1. More rigid control to insure conformance with the <br />various sales limitations of state law. <br />2. Promote low alcohol and no alcohol beverage, wines <br />and beer together with limiting the availability of <br />alcoholic products distribution points within the <br />City of Orono. <br />3. That any profits generated from such an enterprise <br />be used "for the general good",/prinripally used as <br />an offset of the general property tax, particularly <br />for associated enforcement and related <br />rehibilitation. <br />4. Receive a reasonable return on the City's <br />investment. <br />5. Provide for retail convenience particularly for <br />summer residents and tourists in the area together <br />with providing additional "service" in the Navarre <br />business community to enhance its viability as a <br />shopping area. <br />II. SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE PAST <br />A. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE OPERATION <br />The City of Orono decided to go into the retail off - <br />sale liquor business in 1963. In 1965 the tornado that <br />struck the Navarre area, destroyed the liquor store and <br />the location was chanijed to its present location in <br />1 <br />
