Bernhardson, City Administrato
Date: August 21, 1985 CITY OF ORONO
Subject= Administrator's Information
TEMPORARY PATROL OFFICER - It is anticipated with the letter of intent,
that will probably be signed Monday or Tuesday, that we will be able to
initiate the services of the Sheriff's Patrol Officer starting Sunday,
September let, 1985. It is anticipated that the individual assigned to
this ta::k will not only be a person who has been with the Sheriff's
Department several years in a patrol function but most probably be an
officer who has had patrol experience in Orono.
HIGHWAY 12 CORRIDOR - The kick-off meeting for the Highway 12 study will
be held on September 26th, 1985 at 7:30 at Orono Schools. This kick-off
will be for the Council Members, Planning Commission Members and the land
owners affected, and will be a presentation by Mr. Shardlow as to the area
included in the study objectives.
CRYSTAL BAY APPRAISER - To date we have contacted two appraisers and only
one of them has given us a quotation. We are presently seeking additional
quotations and hopefully will bring this back to you on the 9th of
September.
ROVEGNO FENCE - At the Planning Commission meeting it was their decision
that the construction of the fence was not in accordance with the
ordinance. Staff is communicating with Mr. Rovegno to submit a variance
application for the September 16th, 1985 Planning Commission meeting.
GAS SPILL - On August 14, 1985 at 10:30 p.m. approximately 75 gallons of
unlea o gasoline was spilled while fueling a City vehicle. The fuel was
retained in an excavated area at the intersection of Crystal Avenue and
South Brown Road. The fuel was pumped into 55 gallon drums and disposed of
according to methods recommended by Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
(MPCA). The following day one foot of earth was removed from the retention
area and air dryed in a safe area as recommended by the MPCA. The officer
involved has received an oral reprimand.
ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS - At the last Planning Commission meeting the
Commission was given several zoning ordinance amendments but due to the
fact that it was 12:30 before that item on the agenda was reached, they
decided to table that until their September 16th, 1985 meeting.
MOODY'S MUNICIPAL CREDIT REPORT - Please see attached report.
SMITH -POWER'S SEWER MATTER - To date all the appropriate documents have
seen or are being • goad and appropriate checks being delivered.
