an increase or decrease in the Contract Price or an extension or shortening of <br />the Contract time, an equitable adjustment will he made as provided in Section <br />10 or Section 11 on the basis of a claim made by either party. <br />10.2 FM ii ORDERS <br />Engineer may authorize minor changes in the Work not involving an adjustment <br />in the Contract Price or the Contract Time, which are consistent with the <br />overall intent of the Contract Documents. These may be accomplished by a <br />Fir ' Order and shall be binding on Owner, and also on Contractor who shall <br />perform the change promptly. If C- i�r;ictor believes that a Field Order justi- <br />fies an increase in the Contract Price or Contract Time, Contractor may make a <br />claim therefor as provided herein. <br />10.1 UNAUTHORIZED WORK <br />Additional Work performed without authorization of 1 Change Order will not en- <br />title Contractor to an increase in the Contract or an extension of the <br />Contract Time, except in the case of an emergency. <br />10.4 ENGINEER RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Owner shall execute appropriate Change Orders prepared by Engineer covering <br />changes in the Work which are required by Owner, or required because of un- <br />foreseen physical conditions or emergencies, or because of uncovering Work <br />found not to be defective, or because of any other claim of Contractor for a <br />change in the Contract Time or the Contract Price which is recommended by En- <br />gineer. <br />10.5 NOTTCF OF CHANCE TO SURETY <br />If notice of any change affectinv the general scope of the Work or change in <br />the Contract Price is required b-, the provisions of any Bond to be given to <br />the Surety, it will be Contractor's responsibility to so notify the Surety, <br />and the amount of each applicable Bond shall he adjusted accordingly. Con- <br />tractor shall furnish proof of such adjustment to Owner. <br />1n.6 CLAIMS FOR ADDITIONAL COSTS <br />If the Contractor wishes to make a claim for an increase in the Contract Sum, <br />he shall give the Engineer written notice thereof within ten (10) days after <br />the occurrence of the event giving rise to such claim. This notice shall be <br />given by the Contractor before proceeding to execute the Work, except in an <br />emergency endangering life or property in which case the Contractor shall pro- <br />ceed in accordance with Paragraph 10.7. No such claim shall be valid unless <br />so made.
