in <br />00 <br />16,200. 'TRAFFIC LINE PAINTING <br />t Specific and General Requirements <br />16,200.0. GENERAL: rhis work shall consist of the necessary preliminary sur- <br />face cleaning and the painting of traffic control lines such as centerline <br />t striping, shoulder line or pavement edge striping and cross walk striping. <br />16,200.1. DESCRIPTION: All traffic markings shall conform completely to all <br />pertinent sections of the latest addition of the manual on Uniform Traffic <br />Control Devices for Streets and Highways of the State of Minnesota as prepared <br />and published by the Dept. of 'rransportation, St. Paul, MN. Conformance shall <br />he to color, width of line, placement of markings and all othv r requirements. <br />16,20, COLOR AND WIDTH OF LINES: The color and width of lines shall be as <br />follows. <br />Item Color Line Width <br />Center lines Yellow 4" <br />Pavement edge line White 4" <br />Stop lines White 24" <br />Crosswalk lines White 6" <br />16,200.3 SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces should be cleaned and brush`o <br />remove a?f da eterious material that would be detrimental to the pai <br />operation or "wearability" of the paint. No painting shall be done unti, e <br />surface has been inspected and approved by the Engineer or his authorized re- <br />presentative. <br />16,200.5. PAINT APPLIC A'r[ON: All traffic paints shall be applied by brush, <br />spray or flow methods au approved by the Engineer. Painting equipment shall <br />he capable of applying a smooth, even coat of paint at the rates required. <br />All paint apllicstors shall be carefully cleaned prior. to start of operations <br />to avoid skippit.,; or application of dried chunks or boavy particles of pig- <br />ment. Rate of application shall be as recommended by paint manufacturer. <br />All paints shall be as presently approved by th.• .esota Department of <br />Transportation and the approval of the Project Fngisteer shall he obtaine..1 <br />prior to start of painting operations. A general rate for 4" wide lines shall <br />1t he approximately 15 to 20 gallons per mile or spreading rate of 90 to 120 <br />It! sq.ft. per gallon. <br />Il 16,200.6. MATERIALS: All paints shall meet the pre.teent standard. the <br />Mn/DOT. Only new fresh paints will be accepted. Oil base paintt� al to <br />Foreman Ford 'Traffic Marking Psint 3392 (yellow) or 3393 (white) .t be <br />used. Glass beads are required for reflective purposes. They shall. he of <br />'t translucent glass and as sperical as possible. Cloudy beads shall not Le <br />acceptable. The glass shall be resistant to weathering and surta. 2:ch- <br />ing. They must meet sufficient crushing strength standards to avoid de rior- <br />ation.
