Approved by the Orono School Board - May 13, 1985 <br />Report Card Committee Resolutions: <br />1. Adopt the five page format for the four grade levels as dated 3/21/85. With <br />minor modifications and additions the final copy is attached and dated. <br />2. A five letter breakdown (O,V,S,N,U) is required for grading Reading, Math <br />and Language Arts. It is recommended that the five letter system be used <br />for the sub -headings and for grading Health, Science, Social Studies, Art, <br />Music and Physical Education. However, these items and subjects may be <br />graded at a minimum of a three letter breakdown. If used, these will be 0, <br />S and U. <br />3. Grades for each major subject category will be based on written criteria <br />developed at each grade level. This criteria will be available to all stu- <br />dents and parents at the beginning of each school year. <br />4. The grade letters O,V,S,N and U are not to be considered synonymous with the <br />grade letters A,B,C,D and F. <br />5. The major subject grade will be based on achievement and learning habits <br />(effort). <br />6. Information regarding how each students compares with their peers (class <br />ranking) will be available to parents at conferences. This will not be on the <br />report card. <br />1. There will be no "Quota" "Bell Curve" or *Percent Distribution" dictating <br />how many students in any particular instructional class or grade level <br />receive the highest, lowest or median grades. <br />8. There will be narrative comments on the report card. <br />9. Attendance will be on quarterly report cards. <br />1. The Parent Advisory Committee will review the effectiveness of the report <br />card after the second distribution of the 1985-86 school year. <br />Li. The Citizenship grade will be agreed upon by the teachers who work with the <br />student. <br />
