The recipients from Orono this year were
Elise Kling and Scott Wendland.
The Board, in the past year, had granted approval for Karen Orcutt, special edu-
cation director at Orono, to participate in 'Project ARISE.- Ms. Orcutt was
present at the meeting and gave the Board an overview of this program. She
stated that the word ARISE stands for •Alliance for Renewal in Special
Education" and is designed for leadership skills for special education admi-
nistrators or administrators that are dealing with special education. The
training Ms. Orcutt was involved in was divided into 5 different modules
throughout the year for a total of 25 days of training. Ms. Orcutt expressed
her thanks to the Board for granting her the opportunity to participate in this
program which has enabled her to grow both personally and professionally.
Hubie Rosch presented the final draft of the elementary report card. Mr. Rosch
stated that after all the meetings, a questionnaire, studies of other systems,
etc., only one thing is certain -- there is not a perfect report card. He also
stated that not everyone will favor this system and some change is inevitable
but that the committee feels this draft is a very strong base on which these
changes could be made. The committee has allowed for a critical review after
the second use of the system in 1985-86. Mr. Rosch answered questions/provided
explanations for both the Board and community members.
UPON NOTION by Bill Levering, seconded by Reuben Palm, the Board adopted the
recommendation of the report card committee.
