Friday, June 14th Chief Ki lbo and myself met with the Mayor and Attorney from Long Lake as part of their regular monthly meeting with Chief Kilbo. Additionally Burt Lindahl, the founder of Minnetonka Beach's Crime Prevention Fund was also a guest. Among other items discussed was the institution of the Orono Crime Prevention Fund. Long Lake indicated an initial interest which is confirmed by their Council their June 18th meeting. Mr. Lindahl indicated that while Mir%etonka Beach's fund should at this time remain separate (and available to Orono Police) he wouid be willing to assist in the establishme..t of one for Orono, Long Lake and Spring Park. (Given Mr. Lindahl's feelings plus an upcoming election in July, Minnetonka Beach's elected officials have not been contacted.) Cn Tuesday, June 18th Kilbo and myself met with Spring Park Police Commission at which time they indicated an interest in participation and will discuss at their July 1st meeting. (It had previously been discussed at their budget hearings last fall and there was concurrence at that time.) Based on these discussions it is our present recommendation that an initial Board of Directors of five (5) persons be appointed by the Orono City Council to commence the Orono Crime Prevention Fund. It is our recommendation that if the other communities are to be included th-xt the Orono Counci l appoint one (1) member from each of the interested communities with the balance being Orono residents and/or business people. If this is the direction desired we will obtain names from each of the other communities interested together with names that you have for Orono people. we will then bring this back on July 8th for your consideration and appointment.
